Romanian language, culture, and civilization offers UW students the opportunity to learn how a Romance language survived surrounded by slavs and hungarians; how modern Romania (beginning with 1859) gained international recognition, and how much more Romania has to overcome before adopting free market rules and democratic values. Preparing ourselves to encounter a rich culture, we will also learn basic Romanian.
